Hi!
I'm Anna Larson! I am an active educator, performer, and songwriter based in Austin, Texas. The Music House is my house, and I'd love to invite you in.
I've taken a long road in music: I grew up on gospel, spent years spent studying classical music, and found my own voice as a singer-songwriter in my mid-30s. I've tried my best to prepare my students for a life-long love affair with music.
Maybe you had lessons long ago, and you're not sure how to get back in the groove. Maybe traditional or classical music is not your jam and you want to learn music that your childhood piano teacher would not approve of. Want to learn more piano, but have an impossible schedule?
I've got you. I've been there. There IS a way forward and I would love to be your guide.
My Story
Once upon a time there was a spunky red-headed kid growing up in Dallas, TX. One day, when she was 6 years old, her parents brought home a piano, and the rest was history.
Or at least that's how I remember it! I have been able to play as long as I can remember, got in trouble for singing Johnny Cash songs in church at the age of 3, and have been amazingly fortunate to find a life in music.
I discovered my love for teaching piano when I was still in music school. For the past 20 years, I've worked with groups and individuals, lead workshops, taught composing/songwriting/producing, and hosted countless recitals & house concerts.
I'm proud of the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees I hold from the University of Texas at Austin. I'm equally proud of appearing at historical stages like The Cactus Cafe, rowdy venues like The Saxon Pub, and the concert halls of the University of Texas. I play in various bands, and have released music in my own name as well as with other projects.
Curiousity fuels everything that I do. Its what allows me to geek out on music history with a high school student, or take joy in leading a workshop of adults, jamming out on a Stevie Wonder song. Or write a new EP, or learn a new instrument. With curiousity (and a tiny bit of confidence!) the possibilities are endless!
THIS is my life's work.
When I'm not in the studio, my husband and I are spending time with our three amazing children (who play drums, cello, and ukulele between them). We have somehow acquired a dog (Rosie), hamster (Cinnamon), guinea pig (Sparky) and the newest family additions: Ozzie the cat and her 2 kittens (Cricket and Sprout). Maybe we should change our name to The Music Farm. I'll keep you posted.
