  • Get to know you
We'll chat about your musical background, goals, and what excites you about learning piano. Beginners are absolutely welcome!
  • Lesson approach
We'll explain how lessons are structured, from reading music to playing by ear, improvising, and using chords.
  • Studio and Setup
In-person students will get familiar with the South Austin studio, while online students can make sure their tech setup works smoothly.
  • Ask Questions
We'll go over scheduling, pricing, and anything else you need to know. If you're ready, we'll plan for your first full lesson.
  • Hands-On Playing
For students with prior piano playing experience, you'll have the option to play something of your choice. Its low pressure- not a performance- and a way to give us insight to your level and abilities. If you're meeting online, you'll get instructions on a quick keyboard set up. In-person students will be invited to play the Boston grand, our typical instrument for lessons.
  • What types of piano lessons do you offer?
We offer one-on-one lessons for teens, adults, and pre-teens, both in-person at our South Austin studio and online. We specialize in modern musicianship, including improvisation and popular music styles like pop, jazz, folk, and rock. We also emphasize fundamentals and teach all students how to read music in a way that fits their goals.
  • How long are lessons and how often are they?
Lessons typically begin and 30 minutes, and can be as long as 45 minutes of 1 hour, with weekly lessons available. We recommend weekly lessons for consistency progress, but we can adjust frequency based on your goals and availability.
  • How much do piano lessons cost?
Our pricing varies based on lesson length and package options. For students under 18, we offer ongoing monthly lessons. For students over 18, we offer one-time drop-in lessons, 6-lesson packages, and ongoing monthly lessons. Please contact us, or see the studio policy, for detailed pricing information.
  • Do I need a piano to start lessons?
Yes! You'll need access to a piano or weighted, touch sensitive keyboard with full size keys. For keyboards, at least a 73-key model is best. A full size keyboard has 88 keys. If you're taking online lessons, make sure your setup includes a device capable of running Zoom, and includes a camera and mic.
